Paternity (Parentage)

Did you know that fathers to unwed children do not have presumptive rights under California Law? In California, mothers are presumed to be the parent of the child, but that is not the case with fathers. â€‹This is true, even if you signed on the birth certificate for your child.

Under California Law, fathers must legally establish their rights by filing for Paternity (Parentage) with the Family Law Courts. You will ultimately have valid court orders for child custody and visitation, including the power to make significant decisions for your child(ren).
